According to a report from BET. com, Lifetime is working on a successor to the ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ docuseries that was aired in January. Inside sources say it may air a lot sooner than later. This newer series is set to air on May 4 as a two hour feature titled, ‘ Surviving R. Kelly: The Impact’.
The series is exploring the after math of the original docuseries on the R& B singer. In addition, the series will discuss the culture and conversations had following the first film, featuring clips of interviews and thoughts of experts on the singer. Moreover, it will discuss a more microscopic look into the Gayle King that was aired on CBS.
R. Kelly was arrested on 10 counts of sexual abuse against four women, three of whom were underage and with several of them occuring more than 10 years ago. Following the airing of the first docuseries, it’s been reported that phone calls to sexual assault centers have increased by 35%, alledgedly proving that ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ provided a catalyst for conversations about sexual abuse and sexual assaults.
Currently, the ‘Bump n Grind’ singer is awaiting trial for the alledged assaults.
