Britney Griner, seven time winning WNBA all-star is receiving a life line from her attorney’s for her Russian prison sentence. After getting caught with two cannabis vapes on the airplane. Griner admitted to having the vapes, however there was no criminal intent for having them. Her defense team presented written statements that she had been prescribed cannabis to treat pain.

Before her conviction, the U.S. State Department declared GRiner to be ‘wrongfully detained’. Additionally, the Secretary of State Antony Blinken took the ‘not so normal’ approach of revealing publicly in July that the U.S. had made a “substantial proposal” to get award winning ball player back home.
Her Team Assures They Are Closely Monitoring Her From Afar
For the first time since Griner’s detainment, Russian officials confirmed on Aug. 11 they are undergoing negotiations with the U.S. government regarding a potential prisoner swap that could bring Griner home. Two days later, The Moscow Times reported Russia has confirmed it seeks to make convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout a part of the deal.
