After the horrific mass shooting at a 4th of July parade in Illinois; a 21- year old gunman just opened fire and killed several people attending the event. Currently there’s 38 people reported to be injured at this time.
In an acknowledgement of the travesty, President Biden held a brief moment of silence. He decided to pay tribute at the White House Monday during a July Fourth picnic. Meanwhile, noting that he’d spoken to Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering.
To add, Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement, “On what should be a celebratory day with family and friends; we are grieving the lives that were taken in another act of senseless gun violence.”
“More should be done to address gun violence in our country,” she said. “President Biden recently signed into law the first major bipartisan gun reform legislation in almost 30 years. And we will continue fighting to end this senseless violence.”

President Biden Says He’s Shocked At The Gun Violence
“Members of the community should follow guidance from leadership on the ground. And I will monitor closely; as we learn more about those whose lives have been lost. And pray for those who are in the hospital with grievous injuries,” Biden said.
Furthermore, he emphasized that he recently signed a law that affects gun control legislation. Adding, “But there is much more work to do. And I’m not going to give up fighting the epidemic of gun violence.”
The Illinois Shooting Suspect Is Now In Custody
Biden noted that he had “surged Federal law enforcement to assist in the urgent search for the shooter,” and pointed to the gun safety legislation he recently signed into law. (Authorities said Monday evening they have taken into custody “a person of interest” connected to the shooting.
As a show of respect, Biden ordered that flags at all public buildings and grounds; including military posts; naval stations and vessels; be flown at half-staff until Saturday. “As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of gun violence perpetrated on our Independence Day,” the White House said Tuesday.
