They had made a statement early on, saying it ‘could take weeks‘ to come to a final decision. Shortly after, due to backlash and guilt, the ‘Summertime’ rapper resigned from the Academy. On Friday, the Academy issued a public statement to CNN:
“The Board has decided, for a period of ten years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,” Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said.cnn
They continued, “We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winnders for their poise and grace during our telecast.”
