An unidentified driver speeding through Las Vegas streets Saturday night; killed 9 people and injured 6 after running a red light around 3 p.m. local time.
According to Alexander Cuevas; a public information officer with the North Las Vegas PD told NBC News, ‘there were children killed in the crash.’
Speed is a factor,” Cuevas said, adding that it was unknown whether the driver had been impaired.
“The driver ran the red light striking multiple vehicles,” he said. Cuevas said a preliminary investigation indicated a Dodge Charger was speeding as it approached a major intersection at about 3 p.m., then ran a red light. Several cars and 15 people were involved in the crash, he said. Some of the vehicles were pushed into a vacant lot.
Cuevas said two people had been transported to the University Medical Center hospital and one was pronounced dead there.
The six injured suffered non-life threatening to minor injuries, he added.
However, at a later news conference Cuevas said the coroner would release the names and identities of the deceased; as well as the cause and manner of death. How absurd someone could drive so fast and senselessly to take several people’s lives. Moreover, upon further investigation, it could be that the driver’s brakes had gone bad. However, that has yet to be determined, and even still could possibly face jail time regardless.
