Regina King lost her son by suicide Friday night. Ian Alexander, Jr. is the actress’ shared and only son with music producer Ian Alexander, Sr.
Similarly following in his father’s footsteps, the 26 year was also involved in the music industry. As a DJ, he performed under the name Desduné, releasing his new single, “Green Eyes,” on January 7th. King married Ian Alexander, Sr., in 1997, a year after Ian Jr., was born January 19, 1996. The couple would divorce ten years later, in 2007.
The award winning actress was undoubtedly adored by her only son. And they seemed to share an extraordinary bond. Regina had “unconditional love” written in Aramaic on her arm, while Ian sported it on his shoulder. “We were taking Kabbalah classes,” the ‘Poetic Justice’ actress explained of the tattoos on The View in 2017. “He said, let’s choose three [designs] each and not tell each other which ones they are and whichever one is matching, that’s the one we’re going to get tattooed — and we both chose unconditional love.”
King issued a statment to People Saturday morning; “Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian,” the Oscar winner said. “He is such a bright light; who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you.”
