A Texas mother put her 13-year old COVID positive son in her trunk on January 3. Her reasoning is that; allegedly her intentions were to take him to the COVID testing site. She put him in the trunk she says; because she didn’t want to get infected.
Witnesses reported hearing noises coming from the back of Beam’s vehicle; when she pulled up to the tented testing center at Ken Pridgeon Stadium; according to court documents obtained by the outlet.
Bevin Gordon, the health services director at the site, asked Beam to open the trunk — revealing the teenager lying down inside, the charging docs state.
Beam, who has worked as a teacher in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District since 2011; was placed on administrative leave at the school district.
Meanwhile, the child was not injured, however authorities reviewed surveillance footage from the testing site showing the boy exiting the trunk of the car and getting into the backseat.
“CFPD was alerted that a child was in the trunk of a car at a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site earlier this week,” a Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District statement to Fox News said. “Law enforcement conducted a full investigation, resulting in a warrant for arrest.”
According to authorities she’s now facing criminal charges for child endangerment and was released on a $1500 bond. Sarah Beam, 41, allegedly put her son in the trunk of her car so he could continue to quarantine, according to The New York Post. Beam only had to end up doing community service.
