Last month, someone thought it funny to start a petition to hush up Will and Jada from speaking on their marriage.
Fans were shocked when Jada Pinkett Smith revealed her relationship with a younger musician in front of her family – but to Willow Smith, her parents are simply living their truth.
When Willow was asked about how she felt about Red Table Talk in an exclusive interview with The Independent.
“The biggest disservice you could do [to yourself and others] is put up a facade and be like, that’s not the case,” she said. “That sounds wrong to me.”
She goes on to say, “I feel I’ve always understood that my parents are their own people. A lot of kids think of their parents like… ‘Your whole identity is for me.’ [But] seeing them in this lifestyle we had, from a very young age it was clear to me they weren’t just my parents. They’re full, other people who have their own emotions.”
In case you didn’t know, Willow is a regular on her mom’s Facebook show called Red Table Talk, a roundtable discussion that features her mother Jada Pinkett Smith and her grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norris (also known as Gammy). The three generations of women explore tough conversations. It was on an episode of Red Table Talk that Jada Pinkett Smith revealed that she entered a relationship with August Alsina while separated from Will Smith, and her husband has also spoken his piece on the show.
The internet took the reveal by storm. And even created a meme formulated from Jada’s indiscretions when she mentioned that she was in an ‘entanglement’ with August Alsina. So it’s not hard for the Smith kids to get away from their parent’s perceptible headlines.
People Felt Jada Used the Wrong Word to Describe Her Affair
You know the internet, they will not let anything slide.
