Jussie Smollett finally rested his case yesterday after he reported a (false) hate crime three years ago. Thursday, it all came to a hault as the former Empire star was convicted on all five charges of disorderly conduct. Each count holds a three year jail max. Although he was acquitted of lying to a detective, which made a sixth offense. People forged the trial as a ‘circus’. Some even said it was better than watching Empire.
Despite following two days of deliberation, The prosecuting attorney in the case was shut down by Smollett after using the word n***a; when reading a transcript. The Cook County courtroom was made up of a jury; yet again, of all White people, except for one alternative, and a backup.
Moreover, the 39 year old actor reported the incident as a hate and homophobic-based crime; emphasizing that he heard one of the attackers scream, “MAGA for life”. Lying to authorities is a Class 4 felony, punishable by a maximum of three years in prison along with a $25,000 fine. Smollett, who is a gay, Black man claimed that he was attacked by two men, who later came forth claiming they were actually friends with Smollet and had been paid to stage the whole ‘attack’. The men are brothers; Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo. He alleged they doused him with bleach, punched him and tied a noose around his neck. In addition, another racist term used in the courtroom in regard to this instance was ‘monekying around’ when referring to Smollett laying there waiting for the police to arrive, with the ‘supposed’ noose around his neck.
