The new COVID strain, Omicron; is spreading quickly; while governments around the world begin hastily setting new bans in place. The strain was first discovered in South Africa and has currently spread to 14 countries; while a lab over in The South Africa is currently attempting to replicate the Moderna vaccine to hinder the spread of Omicron.
Two people who had just arrived from Nigeria tested positive for Omicron in Canada. So now the U.S. has joined in on the injuction, banning anyone travelling from South Africa [and eight other sub Saharan countries] on Monday at 12:01 a.m.
Meanwhile in Britain, Prime Minister Boris Johnson says a mask mandate will be implemeted beginning on Tuesday at 4 a.m.
Phizer/BioNTech announced Monday they are testing their current vaccine and tracing the strength of Omicron. Moderna made their announcement Sunday, as they join to the race (along with Johnson & Johnson); to guard against this new covid strain.
Meanwhile, here at the White House, President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris are urging everyone to get the booster shot. Biden held an emergency meeting on Sunday in the Oval Office with his COVID advisory team; according to Daily Mail. During the meeting, Dr. Anthony Fauci told the Biden be would need a two week minimum to collect enough data about the vaccine against Omicron.
