Well you can’t even call it ‘justice’ but like Nina said on WHUR, “now there’s some accountability.” All three men involved in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery were found guilty on all nine counts. So, Travis McMichael and his father {Gregory McMichael} along with the nosey neighbor; William Bryan will spend life in prison for murdering an innocent Black man- Ahmaud Arbery. Last year while jogging, two white men, a father and son (The McMichaels) chased and gunned down Arbery.
The jury at the Glenn County Courthouse was made up, yet again, as 11 white men and one Black person. But that actually says a lot. That there are some decent humans left in our fragmented society. It brought a lot of us to tears today; a sigh of relief for the Arbery’s family.
Rev. Al Sharpton responded to the convictions during a briefing Wednesday,”Let the word go forth all over the world that a jury of 11 whites and one Black in the Deep South stood up in the courtroom and said that Black lives do matter.”
The Defense Made Disparaging Remarks About Ahmaud Arbery’s Physical Appearance
“Arbery’s parents sat and heard some of the most racist statements made in a court of law that I’ve heard in the decades I’ve been out here,” the civil rights activist said. “I’ve sat in many courtrooms; I have never sat in a courtroom where the victim was akin to an animal. Talking about dirty toenails like he was not even human, but an animal”, Al Sharpton told the media outside the courtroom.
And then,if you recall a few weeks one of the prosecutors told the judge he didn’t think anymore than one Black pastor in the courtroom was appropriate.
Just a reminder that the only reason Travis McMichael is on trial for killing Ahmad Arbery is because the video was leaked to the public. The police were going to let him get away with it.
