First Ever Social Media Worldwide Outage

Just when you think we’ve experienced it all. Today, for seven hours, we got to experience our first social media outage globally. Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram went out to lunch and just left us hanging. Not a sticky note in sight. But ya’ll social media nuts can breathe now.

DailyMail reported that Zuckerberg lost at least $7 billion. We all got the same error message that said ‘the feed would’nt refresh’. I can’t lie, as a business owner who uses these sites for marketing, it was scary. Not having access to my customers and even potential ones. Being cut off from marketing business, which brings in my revenue. Very eye catching to see just how in the blink of an eye things can change. Having to depend on social media has been a natural inclination for most of the world today. It’s astonishing to know that our business could be hugely impacted. Initially, it was rumored that a whistleblower would be the person to thank for the outage. However, Facebook pushed back and said they were working internally to fix the issue. They never said specifically what the issue was.

It didn’t take long, however for people and celebrities to crack jokes on the situation.

It’s reported that even some Facebook employees were locked out of offices during this blackout. Facebook said they were ‘working hard to restore access to our apps and services and are happy to report they are coming back online now”. They began slowly coming back up around 6 p.m.

It’s a coincidence that a whistleblower reported findings on Facebook the same day the outage took place. Anywho…

If you are still facing issues, I would suggest uninstalling the apps and restarting your phone. Good luck!
