Blue Ivy Wins Songwriting Award At Soul Train Awards

Blu Ivy is the poster child for the definition of Black Girl Magic…to say the least. Shes the busiest seven year old you know. Trust me. She’s proven that can forge her own way in showbiz.

On The Lion King album, The Lion King: The Gift, Blue Ivy gas a song on there that she sung and wrote entitled, ‘ Brown Skin Girl’. And it’s become the loud sung anthem for all brown little girls across the world.

On November 17, Blue Ivy was  given the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award for her song “Brown Skin Girl” at the BET Soul Train Awards. The song was the breakout track on her mom’s curated The Lion King:The Gift album, released in July to go along with the live action remake of the classic Disney film. Queen Bey and hubby, HOV are also credited as songwriters for the track. Blue Ivy sings on the track, which also includes Nigerian singer Wizkid and Saint Jhn, who also share the award with the Carter’s.
Serving as an ode to brown skinned girls and women everywhere, the lyrics of “Brown Skin Girls” soothe the souls of brown girls all around the world:
Brown skin girl, ya skin just like pearls
Your back against the world
I never trade you for anybody else, say
Brown skin girl, ya skin just like pearls
The best thing in all the world
I never trade you for anybody else, say
Even Oprah offered her own praise. “Joy! Joy! Joy to see this…the little brown skin girl inside me REJOICES that the song inside ourselves now has an InSta-Voice!!!” Lady O said.
