Yaaasssss Lizzo does it again. She is on the cover of Vogue’s second December issue. The ‘Imma Marry My Damn Self’ icon opens up about anxiety, representation and the power of persistence.
When Lizzo was a little girl, she really looked up and idolized Matilda, the little girl who was treated poorly by her family, but she was special and had super psychic powers. She used this power to overturn her bullies, including her parents and brother who taunted and neglected her, even as a kid.

Now, a whole grown ass woman, Lizzo has tapped into some power of her own. That powerful stage presence demolishes the naysayers and negative blocks she encountered as a kid. “When I get really, really anxious before a show, I just go harder and harder and harder when I’m performing and I just go crazy,” she says. “I don’t know why, but my anxiety sometimes fuels who I am as a performer and who I am as an artist – and I know that is not the case for everyone. I don’t know if my body just, like, out of a desperate need to find a place for my anxiety or find a use for it, takes it and puts it there”.
