The movie is titled, ‘Respect‘ and will hit theaters next summer.
Prior to their death, Aretha Franklin had her hands in the makings of the film, so much o hat she handpicked Harvey Mason Jr. Hudson to be a part of the project.Filming began in Atlanta last month.
The movie will chronicle Franklin’s life and rise to stardom. The film will touch on the early parts of her childhood when she started out in the church singing gospel music.
Along with Hudson, there are some A list actors in the film as well, not limited to… Mary J. Blige, Audra McDonald, and Marlin Wayans. Forest Whitaker is playing the role of Aretha Franklin’s father who was a minister in the church. Audra McDonald is playing Arethas mom. Rising star Skye Dakota will play little Aretha, as a kid.
In addition to to this MGM film, National Geographic is brewing up its own docu-series on Aretha Franklin, which stars Cynthia Erivo as the star. Genius: Aretha is a scripted television miniseries that will also explore the 18 Granmy Award winners’ life and musical legacy.
