During the Essence Festival, fans a got to watch the first premiere episode of the show.
Comedian and writer, Robin Thede and Executive Producer, Issa Rae created the narrative sketch show because they wanted to empower female actresses to be authentic.
“Seeing us, Black women , on screen is political”, Thede said. The main cast, Thede, Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black and Quinta Brunson all deliver an aura of edge and comedic distinction, according to Thede, that she wanted to bring to the show. She reveals she was seeking variety and multiple talents to the screen with her. It’s no surprise that Essence Festival was honored to feature the first episode to an excited audience of festival attendees.
