Serena Williams always serves, both on and off the court. And we already know the comeback is always sweeter than the setback, Gems. Which is basically what Serena’s empowering, customized two peice set she had designed by Virgil Abloh.
Monday was literally one whole year since her Nike catsuit was banned that she wore to her last match post pregnancy. This weekend, she returned to the tournament in another statement-making outfit- an unapologetic clap back at critics for her previous look. Serena hit the courts in Paris in a Virgil Abloh-designed Nike x Off-White ensemble. Sending a powerful message, the two-peice black and white set had powerful affirmations all over it, such as ‘Mother’, Goddess’, ‘Queen’ and ‘Champion’ in both French and English.
She gave us a sneak peek on her Instagram days prior to let us in on the powerful designer peice she would be wearing to the French Open.
Speaking to the Tennis Channel after her first round win, Williams said: “Virgil Abloh designed it and so I was really excited because he’s the hottest designer right now and he’s amazing. “It’s the second time we’ve worked together. And it has words in it in French. It talks about me being a mom and me being a queen, as all women are. A champion. It’s positive reinforcement for me, and I kind of love that.”
