The NBA Most Valuable Player Award winner is making hedgeway again for a sista. And we aint mad at ya, Lebron James! For a long time, traveling down in Hollywood history, there’s always been a perfunctory energy for the female counterpart. When it comes to being fairly compensated, Octavia Spencer says LeBron James ‘had to intervene’ with her pay on the upcoming Netflix show, Madam C.J. Walker.
It was only 6 months ago (July 2018) when LeBron opened up the Promise School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio for at-risk youth.
Yet again, today, he strikes a heroic chord by bridging the gap for Ms. Octavia Spencer. The Golden Globe Award winner (The Help) glided into a landslide deal, along with her business partner, LeBron James. The deal was sealed with Warner Bros. TV and Netflix (Source, Variety). Both he and Spencer are executive producers of the 8-part episode project, based on the book “On Our Own Ground”, by A’Lelia Bundles, (Walker’s great-great granddaughter).

Spencer makes it clear that women are on the agenda when she stated on the panel Saturday, “My goal is to make sure that all women of color get equal pay, and all women get equal pay’, and that ‘the only way to do it is to have these conversations, to talk numbers with your co-stars’. Well apparently, more and more Hollywood counterparts are listening to those numbers. Earlier this month, Spencer was seen taking photos with her friend Jessica Chastain, who she has previously accredited major homage for assisting her in earning equal pay as well. When the conversations first took place between the two, Jessica was floored to hear the statistical data for black women being outnumbered in underpay.
Chastain stood up for Spencer on a previoius project they had worked on.
Spencer stated ” We need all our male counterparts to be in the fight with us”.James, being in his first year of a four-year $154 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers is also, now swimming in the waters of the entertainment industry with this newly anticipated Netflix project. And so far he’s looking like a pro! Major kudos to you King!!
